Auguste Maria Wilhelmine Schuldt Mystery

Auguste Maria Wilhelmine Schuldt was the illegitimate daughter of Auguste Rohloff and Amalie Schuldt.  Her birth certificate (passed down through the family) gives her name as Auguste Maria Wilhelmine Schuldt.  She married Johann Jurgan Heinrich Jastram.  On her Certificate of Midwifery (also passed down through the family), issued in 1865 in Rostock, her name is written "Jastram, Auguste":

On her death card, her name is "Augusta Jastramen." Slight spelling issue, but no big deal so far...Her father's last name is given as "Schultz" on her death card.  Also, no big deal as her mother's last name is given as Schuldt on her birth certificate and we know that Auguste had a half brother with the last name of Schultz.  Schuldt and Schultz are close enough that they could be the same name (or maybe at some point her mother married someone of the name Schultz).

The mystery comes from the names of her mother given on her death card and the maiden name given for the death certificate of her daughter, Sophie.  On her death card, the name of Auguste's mother is given as "Katherine" (looks like it's listed as a first name).  On the death certificate of Auguste's daughter, Sophie (Jastram) Klingberg, Sophie's mother's name is given as Auguste Kättelhohn.  What is up with that!?  Did Amalie Schuldt marry someone named Kättelhohn?  Is Katherine and mis-spelling/misinterpretation of Kättelhohn?  Where the heck did this Kättelhohn name come from? Did Amalie (Auguste's mother) have a relationship and/or marriage with 3 different men (Rohloff, Schultz, and Kättelhohn)?

Death Record Card for Auguste Maria Wilhelmine (Schuldt) Jastram

Her name is spelled wrong and the name of her mother is incorrect, and the date of death is different from what my one family source stated.  However, I believe this to be hers.  I'm going to order a couple of death notices from local Prior Lake newspapers from 1907 to confirm this.

William Jackson Phelps Marriage to Mary E. Sapp

Looking for Sapp information and I stumbled upon this...

It's from the Baltimore Sun Newspaper dated March 30, 1847.  I'm not sure why the marriage announcement was published almost 6 months after the marriage took place.  There was a Rev. Donelan at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at the time of their marriage, so that's probably where they were married.

Translations of the German Documents - Birth Document for Johann Jurgen Heinrich Jastram

Transcription and Translation by Gerda Dinwiddie

This one is the birth certificate of Johann Jürgen Heinrich Jastram, husband of Auguste Wilhelmine Maria Schuldt and my 3rd Great Grandfather.  I wish this one stated his mothers name.  I believe her name to be Doris, but do not have primary documents to support that.

Translations of the German Documents - Birth Certificate of Auguste Maria Wilhelmine Schuldt

Transcription and Translation by Gerda Dinwiddie

This one is really interesting as it says my 3rd Great Grandmother Auguste Maria Wilhelmine Schuldt was born out of wedlock.  As far as we know her parents never married.  Amalie, her mother, apparently had another child, Louis Schultz of whom we know very little.

Translations of the German Documents - Johann Friedrich Phillip Muller's Birth Certificate

In a very exciting development, I'm finally getting around to having our old German documents from the Miller side of the family transcribed and translated by Gerda Dinwiddie

Because these documents are handwritten, and sometimes illegible, not all the words can be accurately transcribed, but I think Gerda did a great job!

Here's the first one, the birth certificate of Johann Friedrich Phillip Müller:

Transcription:

Comments:

Regarding "Buwolian(?)/Lurolien(?)" - This is actually Caroline (or maybe Carolian?).  We know she spelled her name Caroline when she came to the U.S., but who knows how it would have originally been spelled.  It's a very difficult word to read in the document.  This document also confirms that Freidrich was a carpenter and that he was Caroline's first husband and that she married 2nd, a man with the last name of Dahms.
