"Died, in the faith of the Gospel, on the 17th of February, 1848, Mrs. ELEANOR SPEDDEN, consort of Mr. Edward Spedden of this city.  The death of this amiable and pious lady has created a mournful chasm in a large circle of relations and friends.  It is however, a blessed and comforting reflection, that "our loss is her infinite gain."
In the year 1840, Mrs. Spedden became the subject of deep religious influience and joined the Fifth Presbyterian church of this city, of which she remained an acceptable and devoted member until the time of her death.  Her disease was protracted for more than a year, during which she bore with Christian resignation the most severe bodily suffering.  To her pastor and other Christian frinds who visited here, she gave strong expressions of confidence in the supporting grace of her Redeemer.  When not under intense pain, she was desirous of having the Bible and other religious books read to her, and jointed fevently in many prayers which were offered in her chamber. - Her dying admonition to her friends and family will not soon be forgottne, There was no alarm as she entered the dark valley, for God was with her, and the manifestation of his gracious presence drew from her the triumphant exclamation, "Glory! glory!" She died in peace.  God grant that those who feel so deeply her loss, may make that preparatino which will enable them, ?? rough grace, to meet her in Heaven. - Methodist Protestant.
