die uns durch Jesus Christus
erlöset hat.

Translation:

My godchild, take this gift,
and remember the baptismal bond,
the gift is small, the grace is great,

Ueb immer treu und Redlichkeit bis an Dein kühles Grab,
und weiche keinen fingerbreit von Gottes wegen ab,
Dann wirst Du wie auf Grünen Auen
durch Pilger leben gehn,
dann kannst Du sonder furt und grauen
dem Tod ins Auge sehn.

Translation:

Always practice loyalty and honesty up to your cool grave,
and do not depart even a finger's width from God's paths.
